Developmental editing for book and journal manuscripts
Manuscript assessment:
A manuscript assessment provides an overview of an academic manuscript’s argument, evidentiary support, structure, narrative progression, and style; and enumerates suggestions for revision. The purpose of a manuscript assessment is to clearly communicate the next steps required to strengthen your piece of writing, and represents a first step in the developmental editing process. You may choose to use the assessment to complete revisions yourself, engage my services to make edits based on the points I’ve raised in the assessment, or a combination of the two. This service will be beneficial if you are seeking a thorough review of your manuscript’s strengths and weaknesses and a plan for how to approach revision, so that you may determine next steps for your project.
Hands-on developmental editing:
After reviewing the manuscript assessment, you may wish to engage my services to make the developmental edits I’ve proposed. Depending on the manuscript’s needs, this may include reorganizing chapters, sections, paragraphs, and/or sentences; incorporating transitions; identifying underdeveloped concepts; proposing the inclusion of additional evidence or examples; and suggesting general stylistic changes to enhance narrative impact.
